Ami 'La Fussiere' 1er Cru 2020

La Fussière is a large Premier Cru vineyard at the very southern end of the Côte d'Or hillside, within the Maranges appellation. It is located on the south-facing vineyard east of the village of Dezize-lès-Maranges, and is planted mainly to Pinot Noir with a small amount ofChardonnay as well.

The vineyard is by far Maranges' most notable, as its size - nearly 42 hectares (103 acres) - and position on the hill mean that plenty of producers source grapes from La Fussière to make their wines. The vineyard lies in the communes of both Dezize-lès-Maranges and Cheilly-lès-Maranges and is generally south-facing for almost its entire length.

The Côte d'Or hillside which these grapes are grown curves westward at its end, which means that the hillside of Maranges faces directly south, rather than the usual southeast. This means that the vines have all-day exposure to sunlight, which helps ripening and ensures that the grapes will make a richly flavored wine.

The vineyard's stony limestone soils are an important consideration as well, providing a well-drained, mineral-rich site that encourages healthy growth. Overall, this combination of aspect and soil produces full-bodied wines with noticeable tannins (in its red wines).
