2020 Domaine Lafarge Vial 'Clos Vernay' Fleurie
The 2020 Fleurie Clos Vernay which lies on granite and quartz soils, is very pretty. Soaring from the glass with scents of raspberries, peonies, warm spices and subtle soil tones.
Medium-bodied, bright and lively, with terrific purity of fruit, lively acids and fine, melting tannins, this Bel Air-based blend has turned out beautifully. This is likewise very well defined with hints of vanilla pod complementing the red cherry fruit. The palate is brimming over with fleshy red cherry and strawberry fruit.
Formerly named 'Bel Air' this wine is now a blend of two old vine parcels (Bel Air & Sarcillon) dating back to the 1950's.
Fred Lafarge and Chantal (Vial) Lafarge have pieced together a small 4-hectare domaine in the Beaujolais, with vineyards in Fleurie and Chiroubles. They have found vielles vignes (ranging from 30 to 70 years old) in 5 terroirs, most of which were already organic.

In the Lafarge style, they immediately began their conversion to biodynamic viticulture. In one of the crus, Joie du Palais, the slope is 52%, and a few of the rows must be worked by horse.
