Nicolas Joly ‘Coulee de Serrant’ Savennieres 2011 Chenin Blanc
Nicolas Joly is one of the greatest exponents of biodynamics and natural wine making. He took over his families Loire Estate in 1977 and has made them a quality leader. Especially the Coulee de Serrant vineyard which is the definitive Savennieres site. It is so good the 7ha monopole was given its own appellation.
In youth, it smells of fresh rain on stones, with hints of melon, stone fruit and pear skin. With age, it becomes a tea chest of bergamot, dried fruits, honey and dried flowers. The wines need a long spell in the decanter, a day is best if you can wait, and enjoy the wine over the course of a full week if you can resist!
